A new study has introduced the Photon Shielding Spectra Dataset (PSSD), a comprehensive open-access dataset aimed at enhancing radiation safety assessments in nuclear technology. The dataset addresses limitations of the outdated ANSI reports, which have been widely used for photon shielding calculations, by providing detailed photon flux shielding spectra for 92 elements. It utilizes advanced Reactor Monte Carlo (RMC) simulations with modern physics models, resulting in high-resolution spectral data that is adaptable for various dosimetry quantities and can be integrated with artificial intelligence approaches. This initiative aims to improve the accuracy of radiation safety assessments across multiple domains such as nuclear engineering, medical physics, and aerospace. The PSSD, containing over 30,000 data points, is publicly available for researchers and practitioners to utilize in advancing nuclear safety analysis.
